Wedding Dress Dilemma

Would you spend over $500 for an evening gown? If I were to spend this much I would expect it to last me for at least 3-5 years and be of good quality. A wedding dress is a different story. I don't expect it to last me this long. All I want is just one day. Or maybe I will keep it for renewal of vows. I have not decided yet. But in any case, spending this much just cannot justify this expense in my overstimulated mind!

A couple of weeks ago I went to a sample sale at a Wedding Show here in Ottawa. Even dirty samples with rips were marked at $500-600. I mean what's up with that? This weekend, I am going dress shopping with my girlfriends to Montreal (QC). I am hoping they will have better deals being the fashion capital of Canada. If not - I am totally digging the idea of eBay or Chinese manufacturer. Even if the quality is not good (which I doubt since most wedding dresses are made in China anyways), it will for sure last me one day. But here is the chic and cheap kick - these dresses are priced at $50-200 max. Please and thanks I will take the difference and spend it elsewhere - maybe part of Honeymoon?

Here is what I am liking so far:

Wish me luck in Montreal. I will post and update on Monday. What are your thoughts on wedding dresses and prices? Would you pay this much for designer dress?

Wedding Colour Themes

I don't know about you, but my Fiancee and I are all about modern. We don't have colour scheme set yet, but we know for sure it will be something ultra modern. My head is spinning because choices are endless on the Internet. Check out what I like so far:

Blue and red are so contrasting. They also feel very nautical to me.

Here is an unexpected violet and orange combination. But so lovely and fresh. It could be perfect for summer or fall wedding.

I absolutely love yellow and grey. It is so cheerful yet sophisticated. It is almost modern and vintage at the same time. Cannot get enough of it.

My other fresh favourite is lime green and hot pink. Love the contrast. It is a perfect combination for spring or summer wedding.

I am also loving somewhat muted colours. Purple and gray.

Vintage chic black and white - would work really well for winter wedding.

I hope you enjoyed my colour journey. What colours are you thinking of?

Here Is Why

The reason I am starting this blog is because I am currently in the process of planning my own wedding. The most difficult part is staying on budget while still making it chic and glamorous. I am sure many brides and grooms find themselves in the same situation.

In this blog I will post our journey to our wedding day in Ottawa, which is currenlty set to September 15, 2012.

In my first post, I would like to share two good wedding books that I am currenlty reading. They are filled with advice and tips as to how to make your wedding chic but spend less at the same time. Here they are and enjoy:

1. Wedding Chic by Nina Wildorf
2. Bridal Bargains: Secrets to Throwing a Fantastic Wedding on a Realistic Budget by Denise & Alan Field
Oh, one tip - save your money, and get these books from your local library.

Cheers,

PS. stay on budget and make it chic!
